About the GL 1S3 Compressor
Discover the magic of the Greenbox GL 1S3, an Opto Compressor based on the compression of the classic CL 1B, but now in a solid state version.
Inspired by the classic CL 1B, the Greenbox GL 1S3 circuit features a solid state circuit with discrete components, and preserves the essential compression characteristics of the original model, but goes beyond, offering an expanded range of sonic possibilities.
We innovated by adjusting the circuit, introducing exclusive features that further expand the sound and compression of this incredible equipment.
Compression stage optimizations:
1- We replaced the Fixed Attack/Release switch with a 4-position Knee switch, providing full control over the compression curve. Even so, Attack and Release can normally be controlled separately with each button.
2- We replaced the Bus Select switch with a 4-position Low Cut switch, allowing you to cut bass during compression (sidechain).
The Greenbox GL 1S3 not only carries over the characteristics of the CL 1B, but also takes compression to new heights, offering exclusive possibilities that you won't find in the original model.
Audio signal stage optimizations:
1- We replaced the VU switch with a COLOR switch, where you can choose between two different sounds:
In position 1: the audio signal passes through a stage with tantalum capacitors, providing a smoother, more velvety sound.
In position 2: the audio signal passes through specially selected electrolytic capacitors, providing more linearity, with a "more standard" sound characteristic. 2- We also added a 2N3055 transistor, known for its distinctive presence in renowned Neve equipment. This powerful combination not only adds an even warmer tone to your audio, but also gives the GL 1S3 a rich duality of sound characteristics. And to complete this package of extraordinary features, the Greenbox GL 1S3 is equipped with two carefully selected audio transformers. The input transformer, made of Permalloy, not only provides impeccable sound quality, but also offers high-level isolation. The output transformer, built based on the original GL 1S3 model, is made of silicon, ensuring performance with the same characteristics as the original model. On the back of the equipment there is a P10 connector for linking two GL 1S3s simultaneously, and thus using both with linked compression.
